Porec
is one of the most popular and developed tourist resorts
and Croatia. It is situated on the western coast of Istria.
Porec is a town of pleasant sun and warm sea, as well as
town of many cultural monuments (Euphrasius Basilica from
VI century is on UNESCO's list. Porec is famous for its
many sport facilities and that's why is a favorite destination
for those seeking active holidays. It has facilities for
then 70 sports activities, including 165 tennis courts located
near to the sea.
Porec features more young people and more nightlife in terms
of parties. There are plenty of well-known bars, night clubs,
disco clubs, restaurants. Plenty camps, hotels, apartments
and beaches provides pleasant summer holidays, not only
for party and sport seeking crowd, but for families as well.
One of the most popular beaches is Gradsko kupaliste
(City beach). 1 km southern from the center of the city
of Porec. On the south there is a tourist village Brulo
and on the northern side is Porec marina. The coast of the
beach is 1300 m long. Gradsko kupaliste is a stone slab
paved urban beach. The beach has lifeguards, life-saving
equipment, first-aid, facilities for the disabled, sport
and water sport facilities, beach volley, renting facilities,
catering facilities. The beach has a blue flag.
Popular
place in Gradsko Kupaliste is Colonia Iulia Parentium
beach club, named after the Roman colony that evolved into
the town of Porec. The club is located in one of the most
astonishing parts of Porec, the marvelous green grove bay,
only few steps from the sea, thus rightfully gaining the
title of a beach club.
In Colonia, you can hear various sorts of music, from house
to funky, latino, ska, pop, rock, acid jazz and many others.
Every night there's a new DJ playing a different style of
music, and all of them are in touch with the audience, spreading
good vibes and groovy moods. Colonia offers reknown house
music on Wednesday, as famous DJ's from all over Europe
play cheery, groovy and sexy house music. Also, the Colony
is the stage for many famous local and foreign bands. Like
every year, Colonia is going to be one of the hottest places
in Porec this summer. Colonia opens every night at 20 until
closing time!
The
most famous resorts in Porec are Plava and Zelena Laguna
(Blue and Green Lagoon). They are located south of Porec
and spread over two peninsulas.
You can walk there from Porec (2-5km) or take a small tourist
train on wheels, or take a boat. Resorts are located in
a well-maintained evergreen forest near the rocky and pebbly,
flat coast with a flat and well maintained beaches.
While in Porec, one must also visit the islet of St.
Nicholas (Sveti Nikola) just off the coast from the
town. It is Porec's oldest
bathing place and a favourite since the end of the 19th
century. The islet can be reached by free boat which starts
regularly from the town promenade. It takes only few minutes
of sail to reach St. Nicholas. The island is covered with
autochtonist forest of black oak and some pine trees.
Along with paved and pebble beaches, you can choose from
one of the two rocky breakwaters or the grassy areas in
the unspoiled nature. From the islet you can enjoy stunning
view of Porec. There is also sufficient shade under the
pine trees, while the rocky part of the island, facing the
open sea and with shallows and hidden places for sun bathing,
will enchant you.
The
most known islet's beach is the Oliva Beach. The
beach is a low- lying partly pebbly, partly constructed
in the shape of a round pool on one side of the breakwater
and a concrete plateau on the other side of the break- water.
Part of the sun bathing area extends across a grassy surface
of a small pine park. The beach can be safely approached
via paths which are paved in stone or concrete. The paths
lead through a pine-tree park with sport facilities. The
beach is located close to the Fortuna hotel, but it also
serves as a local beach. The beach has sanitary facilities,
lifesaving and first-aid equipment.
