Brac
island
Osir & Osor
The
most attractive area as far as diving is concerned is around
the northernmost islands of the Adriatic Sea, where divers
can visit underwater reefs and walls, and the waters around
Cres and Losinj are shoulder to shoulder with the most attractive
areas in the Adriatic - particularly their western shores
- in clarity of the sea and the wealth of the submarine-living
world. The area is full of underwater reefs with gorgonians
and caves ("Cathedral" at Premandura, Cutin off the east
coast of Losinj, Cres), and offers a wide variety of diving
conditions for both beginners and advanced categories.
Attractive locations include two small islets: Veli Osir
and Mali Osir not far from Cunski village on the
island of Losinj. Veli Osir is in a swimming distance form
Cunski's beach and Mali Osir can be reached only by boat.
Between two islets, after a slow 15m descending, there is
a wall that goes 40m down. Best places for diving are outer
sides of both islands where there are various fish, sea-urchins,
sea stars, lobsters, corals, algae cover and gorgonians.
Even dolphins visit this area. Location is suitable for
both beginners and advanced categories.
Not far from ancient town of Osor, there is Rt Osor
(cape Osor), another interesting diving spot. On the cape
high cliffs rise above and under the water. Underwater cliff
is divided by several plateaus, with the first one at 10m
of depth and the second one, with stoned ancient amphorae,
at 30m. After the second plateau, the wall descends up to
70m under water. The whole wall is rich with colors, fish,
algae and sponges. Location is suitable for both beginners
and advanced categories.
