Lucica Cave
 On
the island of Brac one can find numerous interesting sites
for diving. One of the most beautiful is Lucice Cave.
It is located on the south-east coast of the island, closer
to Milna than Bol. It is the biggest cove in this area and
it has five smaller coves. At the coves exit, only 5m from
the shore and at a depth of 3m, there is an entrance to
the underwater cave descending vertically to 25m.
Diving is possible throughout the entire cave under daylight,
except in the tunnel, where underwater torches are required.

The
very first time that I was there, was really special…
First of all, I was just doing my first steps in scuba diving,
so my experience was far from good.
Getting in this crystal clear, turquoise water was something
incredibly exciting itself - but this wasn't all, that we
were expecting this morning.
Something BIG was coming up and I already start to get these
goose pimples.
We started to prepare all the equipment already on the way,
so we didn't loose our precious time when we got to the
dive site.
Everything was double checked long before we got there,
everyone knew exactly what to do and when. We just waited
for the boat to bring us finally THERE.
Just when we reached the place, we went through the last
briefing, checked the stuff for the last time, checked the
torch lights to make sure they work, put everything on and…
jumped into the sea.
Just
after we descended to the depth of 3 meters I noticed something
like a shadow on the wall and I knew that we were on the
right spot. That was the entrance to the cave - LUCICA
CAVE!!!
I didn't know it yet, but this was to be the dive that I
would never forget.
The
first impression that I had after we've passed the eyed
shaped entrance was: "Jeeeez, I don't see a damn thing in
here.." but after a while my eyes got used to the light
inside and I realize how big it was. I checked my manometer
- I used like 20 bars in 3 minutes…
"Relax, relax - if you keep on breathing like this you will
finish your dive within a couple of minutes…" - I was thinking
to myself.
We descended to something like 15 meters and made a first
circle around the cave, staying close to the wall. After
that, I moved to the center and looked around again.
I
was perfectly in the middle of it.
It was amazing.
When I looked up, I saw other divers entering the cave -
their silhouettes at the shape of entrance looked so small
to me…
I cooled down a little so I could circle the cave again.
And than I noticed something.
I didn't know what, but it looked BIG.
I looked at my friend with the question in my eyes - DID
YOU SEE IT???
But he didn't notice anything.
My
torch light went immediately on.
Nothing.
Hmmmm….
WHAT WAS THAT AND WHERE IS IT NOW???
Air consumption increased again…
THERE!!!
I noticed silver shape again, two shapes, no- three, finally
7 shapes!!
I pointed that to my friend, he nodded (a bit nervously),
that he saw it too.
These shapes were fish shapes of course - but these fish
were the biggest fish I saw until then, in real.
Two of them were big indeed - about 1,5m long, the rest
of the family was a bit smaller size. They were now so close
to me that I could almost touch them!!!
I checked my manometer again - I cannot say what I thought
then, because it will be censored anyway, but I knew that
my dive was over.
I had only 60 bars left, my friend had about 100 but we
decided to finish and ascend.
I was so disappointed with such a short time and so happy
and excited with such a nice dive!!! It was absolutely great!!!
After, when we were back on boat, we were telling everyone
what we saw. Amazing - nobody else saw it!! But our dive
guide knew what we were talking about - the fish we saw
were Gofs (Seriola Dumerili or Greater Amberjack).
They live in this cave and it is quite often possible to
see them inside.
Since then I visited the cave plenty of times.
Every time it is a different dive, and every time it is
a perfect dive.
It still remains one of my favorite dive sites around Brac
Island.
It is just one of the dive sites that you must see for yourself.
